Low Carbon Footprint Retreats

I don’t know about you, but we’re committed to reducing our carbon footprint. Here in Vermont, we’re attending meetings, hearing radio talks and reading articles to get the straight poop. As far as summer retreats go, I say follow your nose to a nearby opportunity that you can afford in your own backyard!
Here are a few kernels to throw into the fire of your desire for a peaceful getaway. See if they pop for you:
- The All About Retreats Programs section provides a Find Retreat Searchbox so you can search by keywords such as “California”, “New England”, “Spiritual”, etc.
- Find a retreat that is within a few hours of home and when you register, ask the organizer if there is anyone who would be a candidate for a ride share with you. Hey - at least you won’t show up knowing NO ONE, and you’ll both save money and gas.
- Consider joining an open enrollment retreat or workshop at a retreat or conference center that is on the green scene. There are probably many on AAR’s Retreats and Conference Centers pages. Here are a few:
All of these places offer open enrollment programs:
- Northeastern US: Essex Conference Center Retreat and Trinity Retreat Center - both in Massachusetts
- No. California: Shambhala Ranch
- S0. Cal: Pali Mountain
- Midwest: Hope Springs Institute in Ohio
- Southwest: Pocket Sanctuary in AZ, Namaste in TX and Heavenly Lodge in NM
There are likely others among the All About Retreats Members, so go find them in the Retreats and Conference Centers section of our website. Centers are listed geographically - simple !
If you just plain strike out … you can still do your part in reducing your carbon footprint and building a green future:
Read the eco-statement that our Member, Trinity Retreat Center, posted to their website. Be intentional, go forth and make your own green efforts at any venue you visit this summer and beyond!
Stay cool … be green … and have fun out there!
