Tele-Interview with Dr. Keith Ablow

Q: How many psychiatrists does it take to change a light bulb?
A: Just one, but the light bulb must be motivated to change!
Okay. Stick with me, I promise, this will get better! You’ve got my commitment on that!
The first big surprise to me, was Dr. Ablow’s willingness and availability to talk with me, a non-media person who runs a retreat website. If you go to his website you’ll learn, as I did, that he very busy being an expert on personal growth and change, and has written a NY Times bestseller, Living the Truth: Transform Your Life Through the Power of Insight and Honesty. Keith is a Fox News Psychiatry Correspondent, contributing editor for Good Housekeeping and Men’s Fitness, and repeat Oprah guest. He has earned the title, “America’s Psychiatrist” by helping millions of people take control of their lives by understanding the patterns they’ve developed that are firmly rooted in the past. Whew! Still, he is accessible and available to individuals who really want to change or can offer an avenue to draw such persons into the passion for truth and living with greater ease in a pretty crazy world (my words, not his) .
Having been around the business of transformation and personal growth for the past 18 years, I was bold in telling Dr. Ablow that I am a skeptic when anyone touts the “truth”, whether it be absolute or relative. Accepting my statement, Dr. Ablow and I talked about the weekend retreat he is promoting on All About Retreats. What he offers participants is a genuine and highly tuned ability to gain trust, promote a safe space and with the incisive precision of a surgeon’s blade, to reveal the nature of thought, feelings and perception as essential first steps toward real and lasting change. Still curious, I inquired whether this kind of change can actually be achieved in a weekend. His response was simply that the first step is often the most poignant, making way for the teacher to bring the student back to well-being within a trusting and supportive relationship.
The weekend promises to be a premiere experience from A to Z for anyone who as the means and a strong motivation to attend. The retreat venue, the Stage Neck Inn in peaceful York Harbor on the coast of Maine is stunning, with amenities and natural beauty that will surely soften the rough edges we all tend to develop living in the world. Dr. Ablow is certainly qualified to coach anyone who is properly motivated to see old patterns and uncover the treasures of self-healing that exist within each one of us, in preparation to begin the real work of personal transformation.
